Episode 34: “Breakin’ In with John and Lotti!”

Hey Everyone!

This week…we’re bringing you very special guests!  Independent filmmakers John and Lotti Knowles!  They write.  They produce.  They direct.  They do it all!

Lotti just produced “I am Divine” which made it into SXSW.  Head over here: www.divinemovie.com and please support it.

John just directed their first feature (which Lotti wrote), Chastity Bites!  Please go to the website, www.chastitybites.com, and support it via twitter and FaceBook!

In honor of the fabulous Divine and just overall love for everything John Waters, this week’s song is “The Creep” by The Lonely Island.

Okay, enough…let’s get to the show!

…and the vagina that went back there with it”

Great show!!! Far too much great stuff to respond to even a fraction of it.

And I can’t help wondering, being a long-time Chicagoland theater-goer (and writer of two [so far] small productions), if somewhere along the line I might have crossed paths with them. Especially since I once took a weekend directing course at Chicago Filmmakers (from a guy whose name was familiar to me because, god bless ’em, he had talked a young Diane Lane into doing a scene topless in the great adaptation of Edith Wharton’s “Summer” that he had directed).

While there I, full of awe, touched, handled, yes even caressed the 16mm camera… but I could never give myself the permission to take the plunge and actually make a film. (Probably proving once again that I’m more of a writer than a filmmaker.)

I was a HUGE “Veronica Mars” fan, and as such cannot objectively weigh the merits of crowd-funding. All I can say is that I’m glad that the movie is FINALLY happening! (Though of course I’m worried the script won’t live up to the legacy.)

Thankfully Lotti already mentioned all the points I would have covered (except for the fact that Kristen Bell herself has been wanting for years to do a Veronica Mars movie) (and I’d hardly it “going backwards” considering the quality of her most recent movie with her husband!), especially about how the solution to the world’s problems lies not with chiding those who want to pay in advance to influence what movies are made, but with stopping our government from stealing (taxing) our money to enrich the bloated and yet still constantly expanding military-industrial complex. (The US government now spends more money on the military than all of the rest of the world’s countries combined!)

As I’ve said many times before, horror is not exactly my cup of tea (or blood), but I am so impressed with John and Lotti that I will definitely support their films. And I do hope you have them on again after the release of Chastity Bites — I’m sure they will have a lot more interesting stories and info. (And when the time comes for them to write their memoirs, I hope they will use the above title!)
